Four rooms, four reasons to buy a hexagon panel

"Hexagon wall panel" covers more ground than most shops let on. Here's who actually buys each group.

The home-studio owner

Recording, streaming or just tired of a bare, echoey room — acoustic hexagon panels are the fastest fix that doesn't involve rebuilding a wall.

The feature-wall renovator

Decorative marble, wood and stone-look hexagon tiles give a kitchen splashback or hallway a tiled finish without hiring a tiler.

The home-office organiser

Hexagon felt and cork pin boards replace a single rectangular corkboard with a modular one you can grow as the memo pile grows.

The gaming-room builder

Smart Wi-Fi hexagon light panels turn a bare wall into a lit, music-synced backdrop, controlled entirely from a phone.

Four groups, one self-adhesive fitting

Every panel in the range fits the same way — peel, press, done. Here's what tells the four groups apart.

JBER black hexagon acoustic panels covering a home studio wall

Acoustic panels — for a quieter room

Polyester fibre or foam tiles rated to absorb echo, not just decorate. 28 options across black, grey, white and colour finishes, in 12, 18 and larger packs, from budget entry packs to premium wood-look and cuttable designs.

Mollywell Black Oak wood-look hexagon acoustic panels fitted to a living room wall

Decorative tiles — for a finished look

Marble-effect, wood-toned and stone-look hexagon tiles built for kitchens, bathrooms and feature walls. No acoustic claim here — these are about the finish, peel-and-stick with no grout or tiling tools.

Fluxynara Nordic Slate hexagon felt pin board tiles arranged on a home office wall

Pin boards — for memos that grow

Felt and real cork hexagon tiles that pin straight into, expandable one tile at a time. A cork-board alternative for home offices, kitchens and bedrooms that doesn't commit you to one fixed size.

Govee Glide Hexa smart LED hexagon panels lit in colour on a gaming room wall

Smart lights — for a lit feature wall

Wi-Fi hexagon LED panels from Nanoleaf, Govee and others, controlled by app and often voice. Music-sync and scene modes for gaming rooms and bedrooms, no separate smart-home hub required.

The honest guide to buying hexagon wall panels

6 min read Hex & Hush

"Hexagon wall panel" is a search term that covers four genuinely different products, and buying the wrong one is the most common mistake — someone wanting a quieter gaming room ends up with a marble-effect kitchen tile, or someone wanting a memo board ends up with a light fitting. This guide is here so you order the right group first time.

Decide what you're actually trying to fix

Start with the problem, not the shape. If a room sounds harsh, echoey or too "live" when you talk in it, you want an acoustic panel — look for a stated material (polyester fibre or foam) and, ideally, an NRC rating. If the wall just looks unfinished, a decorative tile is the one you want. If you're drowning in sticky notes, it's a pin board. If you want a lit, changeable feature wall, it's a smart light panel.

Coverage: measure before you order

Every pack states its coverage — usually in m² or sq ft for acoustic and decorative tiles, or a tile count for pin boards and light panels. Measure the actual wall area first; hexagon tiles waste more at the edges than a square tile because of the angled cuts, so add a small buffer rather than ordering the exact number your calculator gives you.

What "self-adhesive" really means

Every product across all four categories in this range fits the same way: peel a backing film and press the tile to a clean, dry, flat wall. That's genuinely tools-free, but it isn't damage-free on every surface — test a spare tile on a hidden patch of textured plaster, wallpaper or fresh paint before committing a whole pack, since adhesion and removal vary by wall finish.

Acoustic ratings, honestly explained

NRC (Noise Reduction Coefficient) is the number worth checking on acoustic panels — it's a 0–1 score for how much sound a material absorbs versus reflects. Panels rated 0.9 or above absorb the large majority of reflected sound in the frequency ranges they're tested against. No panel eliminates sound coming through a wall from another room; that's a soundproofing problem, not an acoustic-treatment one, and needs mass (like added plasterboard) rather than a surface panel.

Smart light panels: what to check before buying

Confirm the kit connects over your home Wi-Fi (all of ours do) and check whether voice control needs Alexa, Google Assistant or both. Panel count matters more than most buyers expect — a 6 or 7-panel starter kit covers a small accent area, while 9 or 10-panel kits are sized for a genuine feature wall. Most brands sell expansion packs, so starting smaller and adding on is a reasonable way to try the format.

Hexagon wall panel FAQs

What's the difference between the four types of hexagon panel?

Acoustic panels are self-adhesive polyester fibre or foam tiles that absorb echo in a room. Decorative tiles are a peel-and-stick finish (marble, wood or stone-look) with no acoustic purpose. Pin boards are felt or cork hexagon tiles you pin photos and memos to. Smart light panels are Wi-Fi LED tiles you control from an app.

Will acoustic hexagon panels actually reduce echo?

Yes — the polyester fibre and foam panels absorb reflected sound rather than just muffling it, and most people notice a clear difference once a cluster is up. They calm a hard-walled room; they won't fully soundproof it against noise from next door.

Do I need any tools to fit these?

No. Every panel in the range is self-adhesive — peel the backing and press it to a clean, dry, flat wall. No drilling, screws or professional installer needed for any of the four categories.

How much wall does one pack cover?

It varies by product — packs run from 6 to 20 pieces. Each product page states its exact coverage in m² or sq ft, so check that against your wall before ordering.

Do the smart light panels need a hub?

No — they connect over your home Wi-Fi through the maker's own app. Voice control (where supported) needs a compatible Alexa or Google Assistant device, but no separate smart-home hub is required.

How long does delivery take?

Orders are dispatched promptly and your delivery estimate is shown at checkout before you pay. Delivery is free UK-wide on orders over £50, with a flat £4.99 charge under that.

Can I return a pack if it's not right for my wall?

Yes, in line with our returns policy. Unopened packs can be returned within 30 days; open a pack to check the colour against your wall before fitting the whole thing.
